My Approach
It takes time to develop a trusting relationship in which you feel safe and comfortable sharing your thoughts and feelings. Initially we’ll spend some time exploring where you are now versus where you want to be. You've taken time to walk deep into the forest, and it's going to take time to walk out, so while the tempo may be gentle, our work is progressive.
“The sessions were challenging, but full of support and also humour. Ben provides a safe space, with openness, warmth, and kindness.”
I’ll invite you to talk—and check-in with your body. With the utmost of care, compassion and expertise I’ll guide you to unearth what’s stored deep inside, releasing and healing your pain, returning you to a happier, more balanced and restful way of being. The aim of therapy is to free you to be the most authentic version of yourself, living in the present moment. My aim is to make myself redundant as quickly as possible.
As a trauma-informed therapist, I understand that whilst certain events are life-changing, trauma is not those events but what happens inside of us in response to these events. Our trauma responses shape how we see the world, and our places in it. As we get older we get to become more who we truly are, shedding the old adaptations that at some point we adopted to keep us safe.
I’ll support your inner journey with heaps of kindness, care and compassion. I also offer practical advice that will support you in regulating your nervous system, giving you the ability to calm yourself in stressful situations. Where appropriate, I’ll offer suggestions on nutrition, exercise, social engagement and more.
Your First Visit: Here’s what to expect…
Our first session is about creating safety and connection. We’ll take time to understand what brings you here, discuss your hopes for therapy, and explore how your body holds your experiences. I’ll explain my approach and answer any questions you have. Together, we’ll establish a foundation of trust for our therapeutic journey.
We can meet in person or on-line, as virtual therapy can be equally effective. I’ve created specific approaches to ensure our virtual space feels just as holding and supportive as meeting in person.
