My Approach
The essence of Mind-Body Medicine is to establish which old or current traumas, beliefs and conflicts in your life are triggering your body to express physical pain. This is a deep and sensitive subject and one that is handled with your safety in mind at all times.
It takes time to develop a trusting relationship in which you feel safe and comfortable sharing your thoughts and feelings. Initially we’ll spend some time exploring where you are now versus where you want to be. You've taken time to walk deep into the forest, and it's going to take time to walk out, so while the tempo may be slow, our work is progressive.
I’ll invite you to talk—and check-in with your body. With the utmost of care, compassion and expertise I’ll guide you to unearth what’s stored deep inside, releasing and healing your pain, returning you to a happier, more balanced and restful way of being. The aim of therapy is to free you to be the most authentic version of yourself. My aim is to make myself redundant as quickly as possible.
As a trauma-informed therapist, I understand that whilst certain events are life-changing, trauma is not those events but what happens inside of us in response to these events. Our trauma responses shape how we see the world, and our places in it. As we get older we get to become more who we truly are, shedding the old adaptations that at some point we adopted to keep us safe.
I’ll support your inner journey with heaps of kindness, care and compassion. I also offer practical advice that will support you in regulating your nervous system, giving you the ability to calm yourself in stressful situations. Where appropriate, I’ll offer suggestions on nutrition, exercise, social engagement and more.
Your First Visit: Here’s what to expect…
When we meet each other, we first establish how you can best equip yourself to feel safe, both in our sessions together and in-between. (I offer some excellent resources.) We then work through your case, really understanding your experience whilst gently but deeply exploring your timelines, triggers and wider view experiences. (You may not have been asked about these before, in conventional medical settings or other approaches.) There’s plenty of space for you to ask questions. Some suggestions for work you can do in between our sessions may be offered.
